Reasons for being Denied Entry into New Zealand

To ensure a seamless entry process into New Zealand, make sure you meet the following criteria:

  • You must be a legitimate visitor
  • You must satisfy our character requirements
  • You must not have had a significant change in circumstances since your visa was granted
  • You must agree to allow us to take your photo, fingerprints, or iris scans
  • You must be able to provide evidence of onward travel or funds for departure from New Zealand.

Compiling Strong Evidence for Your New Zealand Visa Application

To demonstrate your authentic intentions to visit New Zealand, consider including the following evidence with your application:

Travel History

Provide a copy of your current and recent passports, including the photo page, and all pages with visa records, entry, and exit stamps.

Residency Information

If you live in a country other than your country of citizenship, provide a copy of the visa that allows you to reside there.

Previously Declined Visa Applications

If any other country has rejected your visa application, include a copy of the letter from that country's immigration authority declining your application, or a letter outlining why the application was unsuccessful.

Visiting Family or Friends

If you are visiting family or friends in New Zealand, provide their names, contact addresses and phone numbers, and their New Zealand visa or citizenship status.

Travel Plans

Provide evidence of your plans while in New Zealand such as hotel and accommodation bookings, attraction bookings, or transportation bookings.

Home Country Circumstances

Provide evidence of your work, study, and living arrangements to help us determine your likelihood of returning to your home country at the end of your visit.

Depending on your circumstances, include evidence of your employment, such as a letter from your employer approving your leave and confirming your return to work, financial evidence of your employment, evidence that you are a student in your home country, such as a letter or student identity card from your school or other education provider, proof of your relationships with close relatives in your home country, evidence of assets you own in your home country, such as your home or a business, a retirement certificate, or evidence that you receive a pension.

Use High-Quality Evidence

Make sure to include all of the evidence you want us to consider with your application. Each case is decided based on the information and evidence provided. Insufficient evidence may result in a longer processing time or a declined application. All evidence must be genuine. If you or your agent provide counterfeit evidence or false information, your application may be rejected.

Length of Stay

The length of your stay in New Zealand depends on whether you have a multiple entry or a single-entry visa.

Multiple Entry Visitor Visa

With a multiple entry visa, you can visit New Zealand as a tourist as many times as you desire and remain for a maximum of six months in a 12-month period. The 12-month period is calculated from your intended departure date. To be qualified, you must have been absent from New Zealand for at least nine months in the 18-month period preceding your application.

Single Entry Visitor Visa

If you want to visit New Zealand for more than six months or prolong your current six-month stay in New Zealand, you may be granted a single-entry visa. This allows you to enter New Zealand once and stay for up to nine months in an 18-month period. The 18-month period is calculated from your intended departure date.
