Express Entry is an immigration system that allow persons to apply as a skilled immigrant for a chance to migrate to Canada has a permanent resident. Applicants are ranked based on their age, education, language proficiency, work experience and other factors.
Once you have your score and have completed your application it will be entered into the Express Entry Pool of candidates where your chances to be selected by an employer to work or to receive a nomination by the province and invitation to apply (ITA) for permanent residence. There is a draw every two weeks and is based on the score and according to province.
Persons are qualified for Express Entry if they meet the criteria for one of the following programs: Federal Skilled Work Program, Skilled Trade Program and Canadian Experience Class.
For people who are qualified to immigrate to Canada because of their work experience and score a minimum of 67 points. They must meet the following criteria:
- 1 full year of experience in the last 10 years before applying.
- Meet the language requirement in either English or French with a score of CLB 7
- Sufficient funds to settle in Canada OR Have a valid job offer (not required)
- Post-Secondary Education
- Performed the lead duties of NOC - O, A & B
· Managerial Jobs eg. Restaurant Managers, Mine Managers, Sore Captains (fishing)
· A – Professional Jobs that usually call for a degree from a university eg. Doctors, Dentists, Architects
· B – Technical Jobs that calls for college diploma or training as an apprentice eg. Chefs, Plumbers’ Electricians
- Adaptability based on having a family member that is a Citizen or Permanent Resident
Eg. Parent, grand-parent, child, grand-child and/or sibling, aunt, uncle, niece, nephew of you or your spouse
For people who want to become permanent residents of Canada based on being qualified in a skilled trade. Skilled trades for the Federal Skilled Trades Program are organized under these groups of the National Occupational Classification (NOC): B -
Minor Group – Jobs that require high school diploma or Job specific training.
The major NOC groups are subdivided into different occupations, and they are all skill type B.
- 2 years’ work experience in the last 5 years before applying.
- Language Level – Speaking & Listening CLB 5 & Writing & Reading CLB 4
- Proof of Settlement Funds or Job Offer for full time employment for at least 1 year.
- There is no Education Requirement – however for EE you can get your international education assessed to Canadian standard or show that you went to school in Canada.
- Ensure that you are not inadmissible to Canada.
For skilled workers who have Canadian work experience and want to become permanent residents. (Managerial jobs, professional jobs, technical jobs, and skilled trades)
To qualify you must meet the following requirements:
- 1 year of work experience in the last 3 years (can be part time combined)
- Work Experience must by at NOC O, A or B
- Meet Language Requirement of CLB 7 for NOC O & A and CLB 5 for NOC B
- Job offer is not required
- Education is not required - However for express entry you will get points for any studies in Canada or Foreign Credential Assessed.
- Work while being a full time student does not qualify
- Self employment does not qualify
- Refugee claimants does not qualify
- Working without authorization or while a temporary resident does not qualify
To qualify for the Provincial Nominee Program, you must have the skills, education and work experience you will need to settle in Canada and support yourself and your family. The province or territory will assess if you will be able to meet their economic or labor market needs, and those of Canada. After the province or territory approves your application, you can apply for a permanent residence. The province or territory will let you know whether you must apply through the Express Entry System or through regular application process.
Persons who are citizen or permanent residents can sponsor certain relatives to come to Canada if they are at least 18 years old. They also have to qualify to become a sponsor as certain factors can disqualify them from sponsoring such as a criminal record, being on welfare or serious health issues and other factors.
Persons that can be sponsored are: spouse, common-law partner, conjugal partner, children of your partner under 22yrs, children’s children (under 22yrs if they are not in a relationship), or dependent children over the age of 22yrs If they have a disability and dependent on you, parents and grandparents, orphaned family member and adopted child/children.
