The UK Spouse or Unmarried Partner Visa (a type of Family Settlement Visa) allows the spouse, civil partner, or unmarried partner of a person settled in the UK or a British citizen to join them and eventually settle permanently in the UK.

Requirements Checklist
These are general requirements, and every application is different. Some documents may not be required, while additional documents may be recommended based on your individual circumstances. During your appointment, we'll review your application and guide you on the documents needed to help strengthen your application.
- Valid Jamaican passport
- Proof of genuine and subsisting relationship (marriage certificate, civil partnership certificate, or evidence of cohabitation for 2+ years for unmarried partners)
- Sponsor's proof of settlement or British citizenship (BRP, passport, or ILR)
- Sponsor's financial evidence — minimum income of GBP £29,000 per year (or savings threshold)
- Proof of adequate accommodation in the UK
- English language requirement — pass an approved English language test (A1 level for entry, A2 for FLR, B1 for ILR) or hold a degree taught in English
- Tuberculosis (TB) test certificate from an approved clinic in Jamaica
- Recent passport-sized photographs
- Evidence of genuine relationship (photos together, communication records, travel history)
Important Note
The minimum income threshold increased to GBP £29,000 in April 2024 and will rise further. The visa is initially granted for 30 months (2.5 years), extendable for a further 30 months, after which you may apply for Indefinite Leave to Remain (ILR). The Immigration Health Surcharge (IHS) must be paid upfront for the full visa duration.
