Requirements Checklist
These are general requirements, and every application is different. Some documents may not be required, while additional documents may be recommended based on your individual circumstances. During your appointment, we'll review your application and guide you on the documents needed to help strengthen your application.
- Valid Jamaican passport
- Proof that your child is a British citizen or settled in the UK (birth certificate, passport, or BRP)
- Proof of direct parental relationship (birth certificate or adoption order)
- Evidence of sole responsibility for the child, or direct access rights granted by a UK court
- Proof that you are not in a relationship with the child's other parent (if applicable)
- Proof of adequate accommodation in the UK
- Financial evidence — sponsor (child or their other parent) must meet the minimum income threshold
- English language requirement — approved test at A1 level or above
- Tuberculosis (TB) test certificate from an approved clinic in Jamaica
- Recent passport-sized photographs
Important Note
This route is primarily for parents who have sole responsibility for a child in the UK, or who have been granted direct access rights by a UK court. The visa is initially granted for 30 months and can be extended. After 5 years of continuous lawful residence you may apply for ILR. The IHS surcharge must be paid upfront.
